We’ve all seen those people with beautifully healthy skin that literally glows, with no blemishes or scars. Try as we may, we just cannot seem to get that smooth glowing look! The reason behind this is usually large, open pores, which may even be visible to the naked eye.  When you take steps to shrink your pores, you’ll be gifted with the skin you wished for!

Pores aren’t a bad thing by themselves; in fact they are responsible for keeping your skin hydrated with natural oils which results in clear and smooth skin. They’re also responsible for clearing the skin of waste material, but the trouble occurs when these pores get clogged with this very waste or excess sebum. Another factor for dilated pores is ageing, as the pores enlarge when the skin sags and stretches.

Why should you shrink your pores?

Besides having clear and smooth skin, shrinking your pores slows down the ageing process as far as your skin is concerned. It also reduces the accumulation of dirt on your skin and cuts down on the resultant infections and acne. Instead of choosing for chemical options, we have listed tried and tested home remedies that can help you shrink the pores without a side effect, unless of course, you are allergic to the ingredients we have listed.

Home Remedies to Shrink your Pores

1.Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is the best natural astringent available. It tones the skin and is very effective on open pores. Soak a cotton ball in lemon juice and dab it all over your pores for almost instant relief. Wash off after five minutes. Moisturize if your skin feels dry after.

2.Almonds

Almonds are wonder ingredients for skin and hair. To shrink open pores, make an almond meal mask by grinding 1/3 cup almonds to a powder and mixing 2 tbsp of it with a tbsp of water. Apply on your pores and leave for 30 minutes before rinsing off with water. You can also gently scrub your skin with this mask to exfoliate the dead cells and unmask clean skin.

3.Ice cubes

Sometimes the simplest remedies are the best! Take ice cubes straight out of the freezer and gently slide them across your open pores for about 10-15 minutes. Ice has an almost immediate tightening effect on your skin and it feels great. This is messy, so do it in the shower or in a sink.

4.Pineapple Juice

The enzymes in pineapple juice are known to tighten skin naturally. Take a soft face towel and soak it in lemon juice and pineapple juice. Hold this drenched towel to your face and press it against your pores. Take it off after a couple of minutes and rinse with cool water.

5.Fuller’s Earth

Fuller’s Earth is a traditional remedy for shrinking open pores. Mix 2 tbsp of it with a tablespoon or two of rose water to form a paste. Apply all over the face and neck and leave it to dry for 20 minutes and wash off with water. This might dry out dry skin further, so if you have a dry skin, this is not for you!

6.Steam

Steaming your face is not just for releasing blocked sinuses! You can unclog your open pores with steam. Just be sure to clean your face first, so that the unclogged pores don’t get clogged right away.

7.Tomato Juice

The acidic nature of tomato juice is perfect to shrink pores and remove excess oil from the skin. Mix 2 tbsp tomato juice and 2 tbsp oatmeal to form a paste and apply this pack on your skin for 30 minutes. Wash off for smooth, clear skin.

8.Sandalwood

Sandalwood helps to refresh the skin and prevent the further expansion of pores on the skin.  Mix a tbsp of powdered sandalwood with a tbsp of powdered turmeric and enough almond oil to make a paste. Apply this mask on your face and leave for 20 minutes. Rinse off with cool water.

Besides these, the most important thing you can do for your pores are also the essentials of general health – eating enough fruits and vegetables, drinking enough water and avoiding junk food. Exercise is great for the skin, since when you breakout in a sweat, it releases the toxins through your skin, thus clearing out your pores. Good, restful sleep is also essential to revive dull skin. Wash your face not more than twice a day, and definitely take off makeup before going to bed. With healthy routine and homemade remedies, you’ll soon have the smooth, firm skin you’ve been dreaming about.
