What would you do if you ever thought your freedom of movement got restricted? We take most things for granted till we are faced with a pain that slows us down and forces us to take rest. The pain may come in the form of arthritis or pains in the joints restricting out movements. Inflammation with the pains can be very painful but a few home remedies can reduce the intensity of the pain when used on a regular basis.
We’ve listed a couple of quick to use remedies that can help you feel better when the pain strikes the next time.
Turmeric & Ginger Tea
Turmeric and ginger are both anti-inflammatory ingredients that can help relieve the symptoms of pain. Turmeric is known to have curcumin that is a powerful antioxidant and it helps to alleviate the symptoms of pain. It is known to lower the levels of 2 enzymes responsible for causing inflammation when you have pains. This cup of tea when taken once or maximum twice a day can reduce the intensity of the pains.
Brewing the turmeric and ginger tea
- 2 cups of water
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- Honey to taste (optional) or stevia
Bring 2 cups of water to a boil and add the ingredients except the sweeteners. Let the tea simmer and steep for 10 minutes. Strain it and add the sweeteners to it if you want. This proportion yields two cups of the tea, you can halve the ingredients to get one cup of tea. Drink this tea at least twice a day for the best results.
The Epsom Salt Soak
Epsom salt contains magnesium sulfate that works wonders to get rid of pains and aches because of its high levels of magnesium content. This soak helps to get a quick relief from the aches and pains and it is also healing because your hands and feet get the required rest.
Getting the Epsom Salt Soak ready
- 1/2 cup of Epsom salt
- A large bowl of hot water ( as hot as you can take)
Fill a large bowl or tub with as hot water as you can take and add ½ cup of Epsom salt to it. Stir it around, and then submerge your sore joints in the hot water. This will provide immediate relief to your hands and ankles and your feet. For a complete body ache fill a bath tub with hot water and add one full cup of epsom salts in it. Soak your body in this water for at least 15 minutes for the best results.
The Mint and Eucalyptus Blend
Peppermint and eucalyptus are known for their pain relieving properties. The cooling sensation helps to minimize the discomfort causing the pain levels to reduce a bit. This blend is easy to make and can be also made in larger quantities and stored.
Making the blend
- 10 drops each of peppermint and eucalyptus oil
- 2 tbsps tablespoons of carrier oil (olive, almond or grape seed)
- A small dark glass bottle or a jar to store the blend
Blend the oils together with the carrier oil. It is important to use the carrier oil because it helps to dilute the essential oils. Essential oils are very strong and should not be applied directly on the skin because it can lead to skin irritation and rashes. Mix the blend well with a wooden stick and store in an air tight glass container. This blend needs to be stored away from the sunlight. Take a small amount and massage it in the affected areas when you experience an ache.
These simple remedies can be made right in our home and these are natural and safe remedies without the chemical alternatives that are available across the shelves. Please note that you should consult a doctor for your ailments and get the right treatment. These alternative healing methods are options to reduce the inttenity of a pain and not cure the aches and pains.
