Today, there are more people who are steering towards sustainable living. They are choosing organic and natural products over commercial ones and are taking conscious decisions to live a green life. Living a greener life helps you to protect the environment and lessen the carbon footprint on earth.
You need to keep in mind that when you adopt green living, you are improving the quality of your life. Not just that, you are also saving an extra buck and ensuring better health protection for you and your family.
We’ve listed a few easy ways that are not too hard to adopt if you are willing to go that extra mile and be a harbinger of change. Start making these small yet meaningful changes with these ideas.
Are you ready to make that change in your life?
Carry your own bags
Ensure that you carry your own bags when you step out of the house, whether it is for shopping veggies and fruits or just shopping at the mall. Use cloth bags rather than paper bags. You will take time to get used to this, but once you set a routine, things will fall in place. And if you do use a plastic bag, reuse it for garbage bins at home.
Do you really need that print out? Or worse still, do you really need a copy of the print out too? Paper is made from trees and trees are being cut in great quantities to provide for the paper we use. In the world of internet access, do you even need physical material? Switch to e-statements for your bills, pay bills online and save the cheques. Use both sides of the paper to write down notes and lists. Save trees to minimise paper usage.
Do we even need to say this? We all know that water is very precious and today it is being used without any consideration. It is important to save water. Small steps make a big change – have shorter showers or switch to a bucket bath so that you consume less water, turn off taps while shaving or brushing your teeth, wash clothes only when it is a full load and more.
Saving electricity is not just about switching lights and fans when not in use, but it is also about using the right appliances. CFL and LED lights are known to consume lesser energy units as well as last longer in comparison to the conventional light bulb. Using 5 star appliances also helps you to conserve electricity. Use natural sun light when you can instead of switching on artificial lighting. Have you thought of plants that can keep your house cooler in the summers or even of easy ways that help you beat the heat in summer?
Compost the garbage
Did you know that 40% of the average dustbin contents are absolutely apt to make compost? Segregate the wet and dry garbage so that you know how to use it better. Dry garbage takes a longer time to get into the form in comparison to wet garbage. You can make your own compost at home. Composting ensures that you are minimising waste and not cluttering the environment.
When you look at ways that make you save not just money, but also the environment, your perspectives change. No Green, No Life. Know Green and Know Life!
