Did you know that some fragrances can help you heal? Essential oils are known to have a healing effect on the mind, body and the soul. They help to heal mentally, physically and emotionally. Essential oils have been long used to promote relaxation and sleep or even help treat digestive issues and skin ailments. The use of an essential oil is more than imparting a pleasant fragrance.

Since essential oils are highly concentrated, you will need a really large quantity of the plant or herbs that make the essential oil. For example a single drop of peppermint essential oil is equivalent to 20 bags of peppermint tea!

In our past posts on aromatherapy, we talked about the benefits of essential oils, the most important essential oils to keep at your home and different ways of using the oils in your home. In this post we will talk about how different essential oils help to heal certain ailments. We recommend that you do check with your general practitioner before you start using the oils.

Tea Tree is one of the essential oils that can be used topically. It is typically used to treat skin problems that range from acne, blemishes and fungal infections. Add a drop of the oil to a cotton and dab it on the affected areas. You can also add a drop of tea tree oil to a bowl of water and use it to splash some water on your face as a final wash. It helps to balance the oil and keeps you look refreshed.

Chamomile is one of the most preferred flavours in tea because of its relaxing properties. The good news is that the essential oil has similar properties and it helps to completel unwind at he end of an exhausting day. The next time you choose to sip a cup of chamomile tea before you sleep, also add a few drops of the oil to your pillow covers and the bedsheets to promote a sense of calm and promote an uninterrupted sleep.

Frankincense not just helps cure physical ailments but also helps to alleviate your emotional levels by helping you to relax. Because of its antiseptic properties, it can be applied to wounds and cuts to fasten the healing process. Mix a few drops of the essential oil in a bowl of water and use it as a final rinse to wash your hair to keep it squeaky clean. Ditto for skin care, it helps to tone your skin. Add a few drops of the oil to a diffuser will promote relaxation and better the immunity levels.

Eucalyptus is a must-have healing essential oil because it helps to combat colds and allergies. When used as a fragrance in a diffuser or in a roll on therapy, it helps to clear a congestion and clear the sinuses. It can also be mixed with a carrier oil and applied on the affected parts to treat sore muscles and sprains. Never apply this oil on your skin undiluted because it can iritate the tender skin.

Grapefruit is a citrus oil that has properties similar to that of lemon oil. It is a great oil to add in the vapourizer to elimate the symptoms of fatigue or a jet lag. Since it is also a natural antiseptic, you can add it to an array of home cleaners to ensure that your home is toxin free.

Regardless of the essential oils that you choose, a few things to keep in mind are that the oils needs to be a high grade therapeutic oil. It needs to be natural, pure and steam distilled. Most of the oils should not be applied directly on the skin, because of the high concentration levels.
