Most of us have been through the embarrassing journey of acne in the teenage years. Acne is a common skin problem that is often carried over as we even outgrow the teenage years. Most of us have spent a good deal of time trying to cure the acne problem – from trying various creams and lotions to slathering those packs that promised a blemish free skin and more.

Let’s understand that causes of acne can be related to a lot of factors – stress, unhealthy lifestyle, incorrect beauty regimen to name a few. Most of us are not even aware of the root cause of the issue and we often do things that cause acne or breakouts. The next time you spot a breakout, make a mental note what you could be doing wrong! And if you are interested in skin that glows and is health you need to know more about what causes acne and how you can avoid them.

1. Touching your skin/face

Did you know that acne can appear anywhere you apply repeated or extended pressure on your skin? Some examples include pressing the cell phone on the chin while you talk, brushing off the open hair from your face or resting your cheek or chin on your hand while you work. Yes, we know that touching your face is one of the main causes of acne. Touching the face is a hard habit to break, but you do have solutions to overcome it. Use headphones in a call, tie up your hair into a ponytail or braid it to avoid letting it fall on the face are some easy solutions that will help you to stop touching the face and avoid an infection.

2. Skipping the moisturizer

If you thought skipping the moisturizer will help reduce the intensity of acne, you are mistaken. Not using a moisturizer is yet another causes of acne because skipping this routine will throw your skin off balance and will encourage the pores to secrete more oil.  It can also make your skin drier than normal and cause a pore-congestion. So applying a light oil free moisturizer should do the trick.

3. Eliminate that stress

Stress is also one of the major causes of acne. Its a vicious cycle actually , stress triggers acne and acne results in more stress! There are different ways to let go of stress – work out regularly, indulge in “me time”, meditate, take some time off your busy schedule for yourself. Letting go of stress is a brilliant way to healthy and cleaner skin.

4. Picking your acne

Picking your face is a habit hard to resist. The bad news is that if you don’t know how to pick that acne properly, chances are that you are at a major risk of spreading bacteria or pushing the acne deeper into the skin tissue allowing it to leave blemish marks and scars on your face. Let the acne dry and disappear on its own.

5. Over scrubbing

Are you the type who loves a really good scrub to exfoliate the skin affected with acne with a hope that a good scrub will give way to smoother skin? If you said yes, you are wrong. Scrubbing acne affected skin can only worsen the problem because when you scrub active acne the blemish bacteria spreads across the skin and worsens the condition. Opt for a gentle soap free wash i

6. Not maintaining hygeine

If you are not having a shower after a workout or not wiping off the make up, the sweat combined with the dirt  will find a nice breeding home in the pores and give rise to acne and breakouts. Always ensure that you have a shower after a workout or wipe your face with mild facial wipes to clean all traces of make up. Doing this will help to clear away all sweat and bacteria from your skin and lessen the intensity of breakouts or acne.
